A PLACE TO DISCOVER

PHILOSOPHY

To provide a safe and caring learning environment which enhances the development of children and conveys warmth, understanding, enthusiasm and joy. The learning environment is structured to interest and motivate children to continue the process of learning. Our curriculum content, rich in gender, racial and ethnic diversity, encourages children to think, reason, question and experiment. Every child's creativity, curiosity, and natural zest for knowledge is encouraged. All children are respected as individuals and valued for their uniqueness. GOOD BEGINNINGS NEVER END!

We give our children a healthy start by providing a safe and nurturing environment that promotes their physical, emotional, aesthetic, intellectual and language development. Our developmentally appropriate practices occur within a context that supports the development of relationships between adults and children, among children, among teachers, and between teachers and families.

WE ARE NUMBER 1!!!!!

ABOUT OUR SCHOOL

The Pawtucket Day Nursery is in a modem one story building with large windows and lots of colorful murals on the walls. Our classrooms are spacious and well equipped with age appropriate materials.

The playground, which is fenced in, is unusually large. We have 27,000 square feet of space. Most of the equipment in the playground is designed for large motor development but we also have an amphitheater, a wooden train, a train station/ playhouse, a tricycle track, tunnels, spring toys and a shade garden for additional enjoyment.

Our kitchen is of restaurant quality. A food sanitation manager is assigned to the kitchen to ensure that all the meals served ? breakfast, lunch and snack, are nutritionally balanced. Meals are included at no additional cost.

TEACHERS

People make our school work. The focus of everyone ?administrators, social service, kitchen, clerical staff as well as teachers ? is on the development of the children. We work together to provide for the individual needs of each child including assessment, developmental and medical screenings, menu planning and social services. All of our teaching staff are early childhood educated and update their skills regularly by attending conferences, workshops and in?service education programs. We follow the National Association for the Education of Young Children developmentally appropriate practice criteria. With an excellent child?teacher ratio and the environment of our staff to excellence, we have the resources to give children the environment they need to grow and learn.

NAEYC ACCREDITATED

The Pawtucket Day Nursery Association was granted accreditation by the National Association for the Education for Young Children (NAEYC) in April of 1999. This prestigious recognition has been achieved by approximately 7% of early childhood programs nationwide. NAEYC accreditation is a rigorous, voluntary process by which early childhood programs demonstrate that they meet national standards of excellence.

CHILDREN & FAMILIES

We never forget that every child has unique needs and abilities; our program encourages each child to grow at his or her own pace. Pawtucket Day Nursery helps children discover their potential for leaming, doing, and growing. Everything we do is designed to let children learn for and about themselves.

We know parents are the most important teachers a child can have. So that we can. work together as partners in each child's education, we encourage active parental involvement in all areas ? from the PTA and Board of Directors to coffee hours, discussion groups, and guest speakers.
