BODY SYMMETRIC

Body Symmetric is the new health and fitness business around town - literally around the town cause of its owner will come right to your home to give you a complete and thorough workout.

Dana Scavitti says Body Symmetric has been in operation for about three months.  He says the most unique aspect of his operation is that clients don't have to leave the privacy and comfort of their homes to get into shape.

"Even if they don't have any weights or equipment in their houses, I can still give them a real thorough workout," says the 24-year-old business owner.

Scavitti says he regularly visits clients in their homes, "bringing my little bag of tricks with me."  What's in that bag of tricks?  Lots of good stuff.  Like rubber bands that they can work out with to get a full resistance workout.

Scavitti also carries with him towels used in pretty much the same fashion as the rubber bands.  By standing behind his clients, wrapping the towel around their chest and having them push against the towel, they'll be just as sore in the end as if they worked out in a gym."

Scavitti says his in-home work-outs are especially popular among his female customers in their, 30s and 40s, "who don't like going to the gym where all the guys are checking them out."

Scavitti is certified in Fitness Instructor Training, and began his career in 1993 when he was employed in the gymnasium of Salve Regina College. There he worked with football and baseball players, along with other athletes, in strength training, conditioning, flexibility and rehabilitation.

In addition to running Body Symmetric, Scavitti works at the Fitness Connection in the Palm Plaza on Post Road, where he does training and orientation.

Scavitti says Body Symmetric also offers its clients complete diet and body fat testing services.

"I start out by putting them on a diet, then adjusting the diet every time I weigh them in," says Dana. "Then once a month I'll test their body fat, to see how they're doing."

Scavitti says demonstrating their body fat ratios to clients are especially helpful when a customer experiences a weight gain while on a workout program.

"Say they've been working out, but they're gaining weight, and they don't understand why," says Scavitti. "The reason is that muscle weighs more than fat. So testing their body fat shows them that while they've gained three pounds, they've really lost fat but built up muscle weight."

Scavitti also notes that he will meet his clients at their gyms, to supervise their workouts on fun training equipment. Eventually he hopes to expand his business to the point where he can rent space and have one piece of each type of equipment, "so I can give complete, one-on-one work-outs."

Scavitti says he's very flexible in his fee schedule - he can either charge clients per workout, or offer a package deal over a period of time.

Eventually, Body Symmetric may start offering training at corporate locations or local senior centers, into which he is already making inroads.

The business owner says that most of his customers are interested in both losing weight, and toning up at the same time.
